Numskull's
Review:
I
can't say enough positive things about this short. First off, you've
got the very young and very hot Lucille Ball in all of her majestic
greatness featured as one of the mobsters girls. I just love her whole
attitude in this short. The scene where she is asking what Larry is
taking up at college and he responds "Piglatin!" He goes on
to try and impress her with his keen piglatin skills by spouting out
"Atway areya oingda onighta?...you wouldn't know a thing about
that would you?"
"Oh,
Onay!" replies Daisy (Lucille)
Pure
greatness!
I
also love the Stooges uniforms in this short with the crazy numbers.
The Stooges were very funny and the short flowed very well. I like the
way that the story was written all the way down to the ending of the
boys getting chased out of the stadium by their angry team mates.
Although
this short was also directed by Raymond McCarey, I felt it was night
and day from the lameness of "Men in Black."
Stooge's
Review:
I
think I like just about all of the Stooges "sports shorts".
This particular one is good. The opening scene with the Stooges begging
people in the street for money is funny, especially when Curly and Moe
each got punched in the face. A similar opening scene with the Stooges
as beggars was used shortly afterwards in POP GOES THE EASEL. The "blind
man's buff" scene was funny, as well as the following scene with
the boys using the dumbwaiter. Moe and Larry's high-pitched shrieks
as they fall down the dumbwaiter shaft never fails to slay me. Finally,
the football finale was funny. Put three idiots who have no idea what
they're doing on a football field, and it's bound to be hilarious. I
especially like the part where Larry and Curly tackle the referee after
Moe tells them to "tackle the man with the football". Lucille
Ball was okay in this, as an early role for her. She doesn't really
have much to do, but I thought she did well with what she was given.
