SYN: The Onion Oil Company had fallen victim to a series of baffling robberies at it's service stations. General Manager Fuller Grime, therefore, wants to hire three stupid-looking but brainy detectives to crack the case. Claiming to be flexible on the brainy requirement, he hires gumshoes Moe, Larry and Shemp to work undercover at the company's gas stations. On the job, the Stooges provide nothing less than first-class service. However, most of the services are not typical of your standard gas station (shaves, manicures and cologne), and they still somehow manage to be robbed when their backs are turned. Tracing a trail of motor oil to the crooks' hideout, the Stooges demonstrate boxing skills far more effective than their earlier detective skills. They end up saving the day for the Onion Oil Company making the purchase of gasoline safe - and a bit less luxurious for everyone.

Quick Hits:

- Watch for the Key Gag in this short:

Shemp is all business when a customer pulls into the Stooges' service station with an overheating radiator...he mistakenly adds popping corn instead of stop-leak under the hood. Fluffy popcorn soon flows in rivers around the car, which Shemp and the customer enjoy by the handful - especially Shemp, who uses his mechanic's oil can to to freshly "butter" his bountiful batch.
