Rl. Sep. 1 / Prod. No. 4119 / 161/2 m / p d Jules White / st scr Felix Adler / ph Vincent Farrar / e Edwin Bryant / a Charles Clague / C: George Lewis (Ghinna Rumma), Frank Lackteen (Emir of Shmow) and Vernon Dent (Hassan Ben Sober)

SYN: Arabian thief Hassan Ben Sober wants nothing more than to steal the King Rootin' Tootin' Diamond. But his wise partner Haffa Dalla reminds him that the stone is cursed. Ben Sober's idea: ask waiters Moe, Larry and Shemp to do his bidding, then slit their throats when they return with the diamond. The Stooges travel to the land of Shmow, where they stealthily disguise themselves in Santa Claus suits and recover the diamond from the terrified Emir of Shmow. The coast looks clear but the Stooges must use fruit and swords to battle a muscle-bound palace guard before their escape is complete.

Quick Hits:

- Due to a clerical error on the part of a Columbia Pictures employee in the licensing department, this short film somehow was overlooked at renewal time. As a result, it became a part of the Public Domain along with "Disorder in the Court," "Brideless Groom" and "Sing a Song of Six Pants". Once a film is in Public Domain, anyone, anywhere can use it for whatever purpose they see fit. Because of the error, the 4 short films have been sold and re-sold using numerous packaging ideas by numerous "Mom & Pop" video & DVD labels.

WT: Here We Go Shmow / FN: Reworked as A Rumpus in the Harem (6/21/56). The gag of chasing a dog past a customer waiting for franks and beans was also used in Playing the Ponies (10/15/37). Stooges' Santa Claus disguise was lifted (using some stock footage) from Wee Wee Monsieur (2/18/38). "Ruttin' Tuttin" is the spelling in the film's script.
